I am a maths graduate whose
early career was in the coal industry. As a management scientist in the National Coal
Board I developed training games and computer models that supported management
decision-making. Later, through a time of radical change in the industry, I led a HQ
consultancy service that contributed to Board policy-making.
My experiences reinforced
an interest in management development and organisational change; themes pursued through a
sabbatical at London Business School where I completed the Sloan Fellowship Programme in
1991.
My subsequent work has
drawn on both "hard" analytical and "soft" people skills. Working as
an independent consultant/interim manager I seek to encourage participation and
collaboration, stimulate high-quality thinking and motivate effective action. My clients
range from private corporations (e.g. 3M, Calortex and Rank Hovis), public sector groups
(e.g. Business Link Thames Valley, National Health Service), and groups in the wider
community (e.g. Common Purpose).
